I would like to supply the definition for the organic compounds at the opening of the lecture of organic chemistry. You know, it is “carbon compounds, except some simple compounds”, and it is difficult and troublesome to explain some simple compounds. Aside from it, the story arrives to why only the carbon compounds are given special treatment and goes to finallly the speciality of carbon. Since I think that this story is an unnecessary to explain for the readers of this booklet, I will write about the speciality from a different point of view.

I do not know whether or not someone said that the nature likes the even number, but it seems to be true. For example, it is known by Beilstein Data Base that there exist more compounds having the carbon with even number than those with odd number among organic compounds, and the same fact can be seen in Cambridge Structural Data Base System. Perhaps it would be derived from the fact that the C2 unit is a basic unit of the biosynthesis as it is presumably that carbons of natural fatty acids with even number exist predominantly more.
