1 is a palladium complex having tri-tert-butylphosphine as the ligand. It is used in various C-C bond forming reactions. Dai and Fu have been reported to use 1 in Negishi coupling with good results.1) According to their report, they succeeded in achieving high yields for tetra-ortho-substituted biphenyls. In addition, Iizuka and Kondo have succeeded in obtaining α-ketoamide 2 in high yields from carbon monoxide, an iodobenzene derivative, and a secondary amine at room temperature in the presence of DBU and 1. α-ketoamide is a convenient intermediate that can be used in the synthesis of α-amino acids and α-hydroxycarboxylic acids.
