Steroids
Steroids are the collective term for compounds with a structure named a steroid nucleus which is composed of three linked six-membered rings and one fi ve-membered ring. Almost all living organisms such as, animals, plants, insects, and bacteria produce steroids which play important roles together with vitamins in living organisms. Cholesterol, a crucial lipid component of cell membranes, is a typical steroid. Furthermore, some steroids called steroid hormones act as adrenal cortex or sexual hormones.
